******** This saga for the GOP gets more & more delicous because at best it takes prbably a solid Two years for this construction to be completed. 2012 about April is a reasonable completion date.

***** What is rather funny - if not amazing is that the present individual most interested in seeing this complex actually get put up is NBC's Keith Olberman.

***** Night after Night he has on some Progressive spokesperson outlining how "Kneejerk" Conservatives are taking advantage of this issue and how it is mainly a Civil Liberties matter. His tone (as usual) is direct to the point where he makes the late Walter Winchell or Westbrook Pegler seem like Larry King.

****** He is the Walking stereotype of how out of sheer antipathy towards "All things Bush" if not all things Republican - that merit can be found in almost any bizarre ideology and this attitude is only surpassed by (possibly) those at Daily Kos (???)

****** He has his slot and has evolved. It will only get better and I wish he did have a wider audiance.

Well, he is a nobody. Have you seen NBC's ratings lately? There may be as many as a dozen people actually watching NBC news every night.

***** The latest in this saga is that House Speaker Madam Pelosi is concerned about an "orghanized effort" by Right wing factions to preven this Religous Center from going forward and thinks a "Probe" of who is coordinating these Fears against Muslims should be launched

So she wants to probe all 200,000,000 of us that belong to this faction? Every day she does something to prove what a true idiot she is. Hopefully she is not going to be the speaker much longer. How is it looking in the election for her seat in California, Peter?

***** She WILL retain her seat in San Francisco , but might not last as Speaker. The GOP needs a 40 seat pickup and odds are it won't happen. The Bright side is by 2012 she just might be a liability to Obama.

Here's a scary thought. The line of succession to the presidency if something should happen to Obama is Biden, then Pelosi. The only thing I can think of worse that what we currently have, is one of them in charge.

****Now Pelosi's District includes the heavily Gay Castro Area in S.F. - Let's say the LDS Church opened one of their Deseret Bookstores in that area. Would some consider that a provocation (??) and would that legally purchased & developed property be spared Vandalism if not outright destruction(??)

Liberals are totally hypocritical in situations like that. You know where they would stand. In the case of the Cordoba House, they are all for property rights, but in the hypothetical scenario you describe, the LDS church would have no property rights in their view.

**** More to the point - these Bastards are (as of now) defending Religious Liberty - but they have a very long History of being against a whole host of things like Christmas displays on Library lawns - the Boy Scouts on Public Land because of Religous principle's, "In God we Trust" in Court Houses - even Benedictions at a Graduation.

Exactly what I was talking about.

***** Now - If and When this NYC site gets ANY Construction going and IF it gets built(unlikely) it will require a rather substantial NYPD presence to stop a rather certain response to it being there. Something almost unprecedented in local History.

As of now, union workers have said they will not participate in the construction, but I expect them to fold after Obama has a few words with the union leadership.

In this great country one of our most cherished freedoms is freedom of religion and we Americans go the extra mile in extending that freedom to others. We have even gone so far as to honor the Muslim religion of those who destroyed the World Trade Center murdering 3000 Americans and then partied in the streets around the world. The Muslims we are so careful not to offend do not reciprocate our respect, however. They believe that any individual who exercises religious freedom by converting to or practicing any religion other than Islam merits death.
Just as the Christian religion is divided into Catholic and Protestant branches, the Muslim religion is divided into branches one called Shia and the other Sunni. Even though some insist that there is a giant chasm between the theological beliefs of the two Muslim branches, in reality they are merely twin ruts in the same old dirt road. Their ultimate goal is the same, converting the entire world to Islam.
“Omar Ahmad, founder of the ‘moderate’ Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said this: ‘Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant … the only accepted religion on earth’.” In short, Muslims do not believe in or practice any form of religious freedom.
At the same time Muslims are going out of their way to debase and denigrate other religions and cultures, they are quick to claim that Islam is the world’s only true religion and that those who embrace other religions are grossly deceived. This lack of respect for and insensitivity toward the worth of other religions contributes to the culture of radical Muslim’s terrorist violence, murder, and suicide bombings. One Muslim terrorist recently said, “If I were to hijack a bus in Haifa, it would be for the specific purpose of killing civilians.”
While Muslims dangerously threaten those who practice other religions, Christians in America go to great lengths to keep from offending radical, militant Muslims. This is surprising since nearly all the terrorists who have attacked our nation during the last half of the century have come from Islamic backgrounds. Yet we feel it is politically incorrect to equate Islam with terrorism. Only slowly and recently have Americans begun to realize that while it is possible to love and respect individual Muslims, it is not easy to love and respect Islam.
Very few Muslims claim to be moderate and, even in a muted way, publicly criticize the terrorist actions of radical Islamic groups. There has been no general outcry of condemnation of radical Muslim terrorism throughout the Islamic world or in the United States. In fact, most Muslims have been scrupulous in their efforts to hide the moderation they supposedly have for Muslim acts of terrorism. “To shed the blood of the infidels – even children – is reason enough to party in the streets,” appears to be the rallying cry of those of the Muslim faith.
And when the muted protests and criticisms of so-called Muslim moderates come, they are hard to accept as real displays of public disgust or anger. Since the Koran approves of lying for the sake of Islam, these so-called moderate Muslim protests could be nothing more than strategically placed lies planted as part of a scheme to divert the public’s attention from what is really happening toward what they want the public to think is happening.
No other religion encourages, rewards, and condones the wanton slaughter of the defenseless as does Islam, which also abhors freedom of religion and speech. Its actions are patterned more on the Mafia than on freedom, except that the Mafia seldom kills innocents without a good reason.
Militant Islamists seem to avoid engaging military forces that are armed and trained to fight back on equal terms. Instead they prey on, maim and kill unarmed women and children, then celebrate the massacres in the streets as if they were great and honorable military victories. Shouldn’t America’s freedoms be prized and guarded rather than extended to those who would trample them under foot?"

And we want to allow them to build a monument to their successful attack on America on the same hollowed ground that so many innocent victims died on?

****** Also one has to go back pretty damn far in No.america to find a wholesale slaughter on one day in the name of Religion. Possibly Hernando Cortez in Mexico could qualify(??) Yet on 9/11/01 We had such an event . The vermin on board the planes into Open mikes screamed "allah Akhbar" - therefore to them at least it was an exercise in Religion and while POSSIBLY no one presently involved in this Cordoba project shares these sentiments - common decency should have prevailed here and a project such as this could easily have gone elsewhere.

****** Therefore in all probability , and giving some a distinct benefit of doubt - it is not a coincidence. It was meant to be symbolic - if not to Americans - then to others abroad who wish no good to this Nation.

There is no doubt in my mind that this mosque is a victory symbol and they are laughing at our weakness. Tolerance! There is no such thing in the Islamic world.
