On 5 August 10, Society of the First Infantry Division website announced the death, that day, of Colonel Edward Burke (U.S. Army, Ret.), the Society's Executive Director, a position he held since the 1990s. Col. Burke was also President of 28th Infantry Association. He served in Vietnam as CO of C Co, 2nd Bn., 28th Infantry 1966-1967. Having been an "on again-off again" member of Society of the First Division since 1968, I credit Col. Burke with organizing & "professionalizing" the Society to the first class Veterans' organization we all know today. My understanding is that Col. Burke, who lived in Virginia near Washington DC, died of cancer. Society of the First Infantry Division will search long & hard to fill Col. Burke's boots!

BLACK LIONS, SIR! Rest in peace -- you are already missed.
